ZeroSkin+

Holistic building renovation solution using recycled plastic

About

ZeroSkin+ project is developed by the University of Minho
co-founded by the NORTE2020 programme

University of Minho co-founded by NORTE2020 programme

The project developed a novel building envelope renovation solution 3D-printed with recycled plastics, beyond the scope of only increasing building energy efficiency and decreasing CO2 emissions. The ZeroSkin+ project was developed holistically between four research institutes: ISISE, CMEMS, ALGORITMI, and IPC, to achieve a building renovation solution that addresses the urgent building renovation needs and plastic waste in the environment. The holistic development comprises building seismic retrofit, integration with sensors and renewable energy sources, and BIM optimisation.

Holistic Development Areas

Research Areas

Energy Renovation

The ZeroSkin+ project improves building efficiency through improving its thermal performance, saving energy and helping the environment

Additive Manufacture

Our goal was to find the best ways to use recycled plastics in the process. This way, we can make renovations more sustainable and eco-friendly

BIM optimisation

The ZeroSkin+ building renovation solution integration with Building Information Modelling

Seismic Renovation

The ZeroSkin+ solution also addresses seismic performance issues by implementing a structural seismic retrofit to reinforced concrete structures.
